Simultaneous Harvest in S. Jakarta Produces 1.25 Tons of Shallots

South Jakarta Family Welfare and Empowerment Mobilization Team (TP PKK), in collaboration with Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency held a simultaneous shallot harvest.

"Today's harvest was carried out at 33 urban farming locations and 62 RPTRAs across South Jakarta,"

The hybrid event successfully harvest 1,250 kilograms of shallots from dozens of urban farming lands across South Jakarta.

Central Jakarta Residents Urged to Develop Urban Farming

South Jakarta TP PKK Chairperson, Essie Feransie Munjirin stated that the planting and harvesting activities are priority programs under South Jakarta TP PKK Pokja 3, carried out in collaboration with and fully supported by the South Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency.

This event aimed to support the government's program to curb inflation and increase shallot production.

"We want to ensure market supply is sufficient so that prices can remain stable," she mentioned when leading the simultaneous harvest at Beseri Garden, RW 015, Bintaro Urban Village, Pesanggrahan Sub-district, South Jakarta, on Monday (3/24).

Essie further explained that this initiative isn't just about planting and harvesting, it also serves as a competition among urban farmers and RPTRAs across South Jakarta to motivate and appreciate their efforts in supporting food security.

"Today's harvest was carried out at 33 urban farming locations and 62 RPTRAs across South Jakarta. As for the competition, only 10 urban farmers and 10 RPTRAs that have been verified to participate today," she explained.

She hopes that after the event, the demand for agricultural accommodities, especially shallots in South Jakarta can be fulfilled and home gardens can be better utilized.

"Hopefully, it is not only shallots, but also plant and harvest other vegetables or fruits," she expressed.

Meanwhile, South Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Hasudungan A. Sidabalok said that today's shallot harvest is the result of crops planted in January 2025.

"Today, we have harvested a total of 1,250 kilograms of shallots. This kind of harvest can happen up to five times a year," she conveyed.
